The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, while reaffirming their commitment to the ideals and values of democratic governance.
In his message commemorating Democracy Day 2026, Senator Abiru described the occasion as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey, noting that the country has now enjoyed 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule.
According to the lawmaker, the anniversary provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s democratic evolution, celebrate its achievements, and renew their collective commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous country.
“Today, I join the good people of Lagos East Senatorial District and millions of Nigerians across our great nation in commemorating Democracy Day 2026, a significant occasion that affords us the opportunity to reflect on our democratic journey, celebrate our collective achievements, and renew our commitment to the ideals of democratic governance,” he said.
Senator Abiru noted that Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democracy underscore the resilience of the country’s institutions, the courage of democratic heroes, and the enduring faith of Nigerians in democracy as the most viable path to national development and prosperity.
He paid tribute to the heroes and heroines of the June 12 struggle and other pro-democracy activists whose sacrifices paved the way for the restoration and sustenance of democratic rule in Nigeria.
The senator stressed the need for Nigerians to remain committed to the principles of justice, freedom, inclusiveness, and the rule of law, describing them as the foundation upon which strong and prosperous nations are built.
Abiru also urged citizens to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as it pursues economic reforms and national transformation initiatives aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable growth and development.
“As our dear nation continues on the path of economic renewal and national transformation, I urge Nigerians to continue to support our courageous leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, particularly as the nation grapples with security, and other challenges,” he stated.
The senator further commended Nigerians for their resilience, patience, and unwavering patriotism despite prevailing challenges, expressing optimism that the country would emerge stronger through collective effort and national unity.
“On this auspicious occasion, I pay special tribute to the resilience and unwavering patriotism of all Nigerians. Let us remain united, hopeful, and committed to the collective task of nation-building. Together, we can consolidate the gains of democracy, strengthen our institutions, and build the Nigeria of our dreams,” he added.
Senator Abiru concluded by wishing Nigerians a happy Democracy Day and prayed for continued peace, progress, and prosperity in Lagos East Senatorial District, Lagos State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
